Mick Jenkins
In May 2026, I had the opportunity to document Mick Jenkins during the Vienna stop of the J.I.D world tour, where Mick appeared as a special guest. Working entirely on analog film, the project followed moments before, during, and around the show - from backstage preparation and quiet in-between situations to the intensity and energy of the live performance itself.
The work was created in a calm, observational way, focusing less on spectacle and more on atmosphere, presence, and the human side of touring life. Rather than directing moments, the photographs aim to capture things as they naturally unfolded: conversations backstage, moments of reflection before stepping on stage, the connection between artist and audience, and the physical energy carried through the performance.
Being able to work within a live touring environment also offered insight into the rhythm and structure behind a large concert production. The experience required moving respectfully and unobtrusively through spaces shared by artists, crew, and management - documenting real moments without interrupting them.
