Before the Ball

For the 68th Vienna Opera Ball, I approached the event through my own photographic language — documentary and street photography, applied outside the walls of the Vienna State Opera.

Rather than focusing on the official spectacle inside, this short project looks at what happens around it: people on their way to the ball, final moments of preparation, waiting, walking, adjusting outfits, sharing quiet conversations. Between elegance and everyday reality, these moments reveal a different side of the Opera Ball.

By staying outside, I was able to observe the event from a distance — capturing emotions, gestures, and fleeting situations as they naturally unfolded. The contrast between formality and spontaneity, luxury and street life, became central to this work.

This project is a documentary snapshot of a night in Vienna — not staged, not polished, but observed as it happened, through the people who moved toward the event and the moments in between.
